Technique 2.111 — Groupthink Detection Checklist

Detecting Groupthink Symptoms

Check if any of these are present, by responding with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’:

Symptoms

Response (Yes/No)

1. Illusion of invulnerability – excessive optimism, ignoring risks

2. Belief in group’s moral superiority

3. Dismissing warnings or alternative views (rationalization)

4. Stereotyping outsiders or dissenters as “wrong” or “disloyal”

5. Members self-censor doubts or questions

6. Pressure on dissenters to conform

7. Illusion of unanimity – silence is assumed to mean agreement

8. Information gatekeeping (protection the group from outside input)

If any ‘Yes’ answers you have ‘group thinking’ to handle.
