Technique 2.111 — Groupthink Detection Checklist
Detecting Groupthink Symptoms
Check if any of these are present, by responding with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’:
Symptoms |
Response (Yes/No) |
1. Illusion of invulnerability – excessive optimism, ignoring risks |
2. Belief in group’s moral superiority |
3. Dismissing warnings or alternative views (rationalization) |
4. Stereotyping outsiders or dissenters as “wrong” or “disloyal” |
5. Members self-censor doubts or questions |
6. Pressure on dissenters to conform |
7. Illusion of unanimity – silence is assumed to mean agreement |
8. Information gatekeeping (protection the group from outside input) |
If any ‘Yes’ answers you have ‘group thinking’ to handle.
